Product Overview
Trelona is a compressed termite bait that has an active ingredient, novaluron, which is an insect growth inhibitor (IGR). When Trelona is eaten by the termite, novaluron harms the ability to properly synthesize and inhibits the termite to molt. When this is consumed by a termite, it will impair the ability of a termite to properly synthesize chitin and disallow the termite to molt. By being unable to molt, they are not able to form a replacement exoskeleton. Termites will either die or are incapacitated by their inability to complete the molting process.
Consumption of the bait will cause the termite colony to decline, and by continued consumption, the remaining termites may result in the total elimination of the colony.
How to Install Termite Bait Stations (Step by Step)
1. Plan station spacing
-
Install stations around the structure.
-
The distance between any two stations should not exceed 20 feet where there is access to soil.
-
If the distance between two accessible points is over 30 feet, create an opening (if possible) so a station can be installed in between.
2. Dig the hole
-
Excavate a hole in the ground about the same size and shape as the station.
-
The station should fit snugly so the outer surface touches the soil.
3. Insert the station
-
Place the station in the hole with maximum soil contact on all sides.
-
If installing through concrete or asphalt, make an opening down to the soil, insert the station so it touches the ground below, and seal around the top.
4. Choose the best locations
Install stations:
-
Within about 5 feet of known or suspected termite activity
-
Near areas attractive to termites, such as:
-
Mulch or wood in contact with the soil
-
Wood scraps, tree roots, or stumps
-
Areas with moderate moisture and shade
-
Bath traps, termite tubes, or other signs of activity
-
5. Prevent water buildup
-
Adjust the installation so water does not pool inside the station.
-
You can create a small βsumpβ or drainage area below the station.
-
If the bait becomes water-logged and termites abandon the station, remove the wet bait and replace with fresh bait once conditions improve.
6. Crawl spaces and slab areas
-
If the structure has an accessible crawl space, stations can be installed inside the crawl space instead of (or in addition to) the exterior.
-
Either the exterior perimeter or the interior crawl space must have a complete ring of stations around the structure.
-
Stations may also be installed inside slab structures by drilling or using existing openings to reach the soil and placing the station securely.
7. Add extra stations if needed
-
Once termites are actively feeding in a station, you may install 1 or more extra stations within 5 feet of that station to increase bait available to the colony.
